Welcome Class 2012/2013

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Welcome!  The coming semester is packed with some exiting things to learn.  Your course outline is in your hands and truth be told, there wont be enough time to cover all the juicy material we so hungrily fit into your course outline.

Much of our extra reading will be directed to you through this and other learning portals we have discussed to date.  Please embrace these tools for they represent a powerful means with which knowledge in the subject matter shall be acquired.  Do take further note that the world of work awaits people who can scavenge for knowledge and information on their own, thus, embracing these portals and making it a habit of visiting them regularly will reinforce in you the habit of sourcing and identifying information/knowledge points.

I promise to keep this as brief but as informative as possible.  The blog will over and above being our communication point, serve as a pivot to further reading that my inspire and challenge you to seek more exciting, creative and innovative ideas on the World Wide Web.

Good luck and I wish you all a very eventful Class!

Seminars

April has been set aside as an exciting month for meeting and interacting with "living" proof that entrepreneurship does indeed exist  in our little country Lesotho.

An exciting list/schedule has been set up for visiting individuals who will come at different times that will later be announced.  Visiting lecturers have been secured in the following topics:

1. Student Entrepreneurship
2. Innovation in Africa
3. Starting an entrepreneurial venture (not a small business)
4. Managing and growing an on-going venture
5. Raising capital

You are encouraged to suggest any other areas of interest, and if we can, we shall secure a person to speak in that area.  Please also feel free to suggest any other person that you think should be invited to participate in this series of seminars.

Whilst all care will be taken to ensure that the presentation times for the seminars be at convenient times, please be aware that given the nature of the jobs our visitors do, some seminars will be held at inconvenient times and days for some of you.

All students, regardless of the module they are doing (Business Planning Module and Theory Module) are welcome to attend these seminars.

The Observer Group

Welcome to the Observer Group!  Yet another set of of students who are privileged to access learning materials through our two dedicated learning web portals.

The Observer Group represents over 100 students who are also taking the Entrepreneurship Theory Module, who are not under my direct supervision, who, however, will find these two learning portals as informative and supportive as the rest of the other students do.

The Observer Group, feel free to interact with all other students you may come across on this blogspot.  I have set up a dedicated EDMODO group for you on the EMODO learning portal.  Your registration code is 16e3d5.  I have made available to you supporting learning material that was previously only available to the groups under my supervision.  Please feel free to initiate and engage in any discussions you may find on the both learning portals.

We wish you happy surfing and hope you will find the same joy in using these tools as we all are!

Volunteers Needed

Ladies and Gentlemen ba lekhotla le sa foseng, I have been experiencing loads of problems trying to keep up with all your contact details, corrections, changes of email addresses and the like.  This is taking so much of my time.  This post makes a special call for volunteers who will come help me sort this contacts issues once and for all.

Volunteers would come in at their own convenient time, they may work at their own station of choice.  If I could please have them come in before the end of the week?  Thanking you in advance

Flawsome

FLAWSOME definition:

Consumers don't expect brands to be flawless. In fact, consumers will embrace brands that are FLAWSOME*: brands that are still brilliant despite having flaws; even being flawed (and being open about it) can be awesome. Brands that show some empathy, generosity, humility, flexibility, maturity, humor, and (dare we say it) some character and humanity.

Trendwatching is one awesome site that watches consumer trends the world over.  If you have the time do visit their website and learn about consumer trends and see if you can relate to any of these trends....
Flawsome lists a lot of examples where corporates, small businesses and non-profits publicly admitted their FLAWS (especially using social media) and transparently acknowledging their "humanness"  thus becoming FLAWSOME!

The Business Plan

A business plan typically includes a written overview of the business with a description of the product or service provided, the market served, the competition faced, and the people involved in the business. It should also show financial projections going out three to five years, with revenue and expenses detailed monthly for one year.
In the coming week we shall work on generating creative, innovative, business ideas. Followed by a chain of exercises/assignments which you guys should be submitting regularly at my office.   The assignments will serve as piece meal approaches to developing your bankable business plans. The assignments will be published on the EDMODO Learning Portal.  You are encouraged to discuss them with each other and assist one another in any way possible!  This ladies and gents is going to be a lot of work so please fasten your seat belts as we are about to rocket take off!
I shall as promised put up the clinic times.  You are however encouraged to talk to me anytime and anywhere you see me on and outside cumpus.
